Honoring Texarkana Coach Roy “Doc” Walker Legacy

If you are from the Texarkana area, then you probably know about Coach Roy 'Doc' Walker. He was a beloved coach, and in 1981, the meet, originally called the Hog Relays, was renamed in his honor. Walker devoted 35 years to coaching in the Texarkana Arkansas School District, including 21 years at Booker T. Washington High School and 14 years at Arkansas High School. As head track coach, Walker guided Arkansas High to three straight state championships from 1978 through 1980 and a state runner-up finish in 1981.

Walker was loved and respected as he helped develop athletes' skills while instilling his  “Three D’s” philosophy of Discipline, Dedication, and Desire. In 2000, he had the honor of becoming the first recipient of the Honors Boulevard recognition at Hobo Jungle Park, now known as “Doc” Walker Boulevard.

Admission to the meet is only $5. Be sure to come out and cheer on the athletes!
