Two significant events are coming up this weekend as we remember, honor, and salute Vietnam Veterans this Saturday, including the POW/MIA Vigil, and the "Ride To Remember" Saturday afternoon.

Texarkana-Area Veterans invite you to join them at the Korea/Vietnam Memorial in downtown Texarkana this Saturday morning, September 16, for the 35th annual POW/MIA Vigil. The Korean/Vietnam War Memorial is located on State Live Ave at 7th Street, on the Texas side.

According to Vietnam Veterans of America # 278 President Gregory Beck, the vigil is to honor and remember those who are, and or were, classified as prisoners of war or missing in action (POW/MIA). This includes those who returned as well as those still unaccounted for, from all wars, all in hopes of raising public awareness of the issue and so that families of these men and women know they are not alone in their quest for answers and closure. The VVA plans to spend 30 seconds for each American who is unaccounted for from the Vietnam War (1,579), 30 seconds for each American unaccounted for from the Korean War, whose names are engraved on the memorial (37), plus 30 seconds for each American unaccounted for from the gulf wars (3). The total time as of now is 810 minutes or 13 hours and 30 minutes.
