Bowie County Sheriff’s Office Warns of Deputy Impersonation Scam
The Bowie County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about an ongoing phone scam in which callers falsely claim to be local law enforcement officers and demand immediate payment for supposed legal issues.
Scammers Impersonating Bowie County Deputies
According to the Sheriff’s Office, scammers are contacting Bowie County residents while impersonating deputies and claiming the recipient owes money for outstanding fines, missed jury duty, or other law enforcement-related matters. In a recent incident, the caller identified himself as “Deputy Rob Hadaway” and used an unlisted phone number to appear legitimate.
Fake Calls Demand Immediate Payment
Sheriff Jeff Neal stresses that the Bowie County deputies never use blocked or unlisted numbers to contact residents, nor will they ever demand payment over the phone. Law enforcement agencies also do not request payment through gift cards, cryptocurrency, or by asking for bank account or personal financial information.
What Residents Should Do If They Receive a Scam Call
Residents who receive such a call are advised not to cooperate, provide information, or send any form of payment. Instead, hang up immediately and contact the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office directly using an official phone number (903-798-3149) to report the incident or verify any concerns.

Officials Urge Residents to Stay Alert and Report Calls
Authorities warn that once scammers obtain payment or financial information, the money is typically unrecoverable. The Sheriff’s Office encourages residents to remain alert, discuss the scam with family members, especially older adults, and report suspicious calls so deputies can investigate and help prevent others from becoming victims.
