Chef Jet Tila Takeover Delights Diners at Choctaw Landing
My wife and I had a fantastic time recently at a very unique event in Hochatown, Oklahoma, home of the beautiful Choctaw Landing Resort and Casino.
If you're a viewer of the Food Network and all of those Chef competition shows on there, then you no doubt have heard of Chef Jet Tila. He has made quite a name for himself over the last 15 years or so as a fun competitor on those shows, and as a fine Chef living and working in the Los Angeles area.
The event is called the "Chef Jet Tila Takeover," it took place in the resort's Tuklo Grill, and was basically a five-course meal paired with wine and a special cocktail, all Chef Jet recipes, hosted by the man himself.
Honestly, we had no idea what to expect going into this thing. We thought it might be some kind of cooking demonstration, which would have been very cool, but the way it worked out was much better in my opinion.
They Wasted No Time
The restaurant staff wasted no time getting the food party started with:
- A Jet Tila Welcome Cocktail called a Lychee Spritz was obtained on check-in, then they brought us a Prawn "Crying Tiger" Salad with Chili Crisp Dressing. No, it's not Ranch dressing, but it was delicious.
- Second Course - Lemongrass Coconut Chicken Soup, with Shimeji Mushrooms and Chili Crisp Oil. It set my face on fire, but it was good.
- Main Course - After putting out my flaming lips, out came the main course, Beef Filet, Black Garlic Demi-Glace with Japanese Purple Potatoes and Bok Choy. This was paired with a tasty red wine, Terrazas Reserva Malbec from Argentina... Wonderful!
- Desert was a special treat, a recipe of Chef Jet's wife's making - Ali's Butterscotch Budino. Amazing!
An Evening To Remember
During the entire evening, Chef Jet was bouncing from table to table, interacting with everyone, taking selfies, and talking about food. What a terrific personality, very down to earth, and seemed to be having as much fun as we all were. My wife and I had the chance to interact with him several times throughout the event.
At the end of the event, Chef Jet autographed one of his recipe books for everyone and took group photos with all who wanted one.
What a fun event. Kudos to the fine Chefs at Choctaw Landing for whipping up a ton of Chef Jet's delicious food and for hosting a super-foodie, adventurous evening for all.
As A Bonus!
The good folks at Choctaw Landing included some free cash to spend in the casino, and I actually won a little bit on an Unarmed Bandit (slot machine).
If given the chance, would I go to another one? Absolutely, and from what I understand, there will be several more opportunities just like this one with different Food Network Chefs. The next takeover event is scheduled for June 12 & 13 with Celebrity Chef Maneet Chauhan.
They hinted that another Food Network Chef is coming later this year, as well. If you get a chance to experience this, I highly recommend it. You can catch Chef Jet Tila competing in Guy Fieri's Tournament of Champions on Sunday nights on the Food Network.
