Arkansas State Police Investigate Cotton Plant Shooting That Injured Two

The Arkansas State Police (ASP) Criminal Investigation Division (CID) is investigating a shooting in Cotton Plant, Arkansas, that left two people injured Monday, August 31.

The Woodruff County Sheriff’s Office and Cotton Plant Police Department requested assistance from ASP CID with the investigation.

Two People Injured

When officers arrived at a home on Conley Drive, they found 19-year-old Elana Martin of Little Rock at the front door suffering from a gunshot wound to her thigh. Martin was transported by ambulance to Unity Health in Searcy.

At a separate home on Conley Drive, officers found 20-year-old Zephaniah Wheeler of Horn Lake, Mississippi, who had suffered gunshot wounds to his chest and arm. Wheeler was airlifted to UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock, where he was listed in stable condition following surgery.

Investigators believe Martin and Wheeler were injured during the same incident.

ASP Asking for Public's Help

The investigation remains active and ongoing, and authorities have not released additional details about what led to the shooting.
