
Arkansas State Police Investigating Fatal Shooting in Ashdown
Investigation Requested by Ashdown Police
Special agents with the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division are investigating a fatal shooting in Ashdown at the request of the Ashdown Police Department.
According to authorities, officers with the Ashdown Police Department and the Little River County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported shooting in the 600 block of Brodie Lane at approximately 6:30 AM on Tuesday, June 9.
When officers arrived, they discovered 35-year-old Derrick Burgess deceased near the carport of a residence. Investigators said Burgess appeared to have suffered gunshot wounds.
One Person Taken Into Custody
Authorities have taken one person into custody in connection with the incident. No charges have been announced at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Autopsy Planned for Victim
The Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division is leading the investigation and will work to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Burgess’ body will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the official manner and cause of death.

Case to Be Reviewed by Prosecutors
Once the investigation is complete, special agents will submit their findings to the Little River County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Prosecutors will review the case and determine whether any criminal charges are warranted.
Officials have not released additional information about the person in custody or what may have led to the shooting.
