A&M-Texarkana Joins UT at Tyler School of Medicine For Medical Program

Texas A&M University-Texarkana has joined forces with seven other colleges and universities with the University of Texas at Tyler School of Medicine for an Early Assurance Program.

This program is for students interested in a career in medicine and it became official with a signing ceremony held on this past Wednesday, August 16. A total of eight institutions are now a part of the “Pathways to Medicine” collaboration.

President Kirk A. Calhoun, MD, FACP said in a press release,

This is a significant milestone for UT Tyler School of Medicine and our partnering colleges. The Pathways program reflects our commitment to recruiting local talent and promoting excellence in medical education. Through this program, we are creating a pathway for East Texas students to pursue a career in medicine.

The program will help prepare 40 students every year from local colleges and universities for a career in the medical field. Up to 15 will be admitted into the School of Medicine.

The eight colleges and universities involved in this program are East Texas Baptist University, Jarvis Christian University, LeTourneau University, Stephen F. Austin State University, Texas College, Texas A&M University – Texarkana, The University of Texas at Tyler and Wiley College
