Hey Santa, Better Bring An Umbrella When You Come To East Texas

This upcoming weekend is going to be crazy busy. The last few days before Christmas always are. December 25 falls on a Monday this year, so you'll need to bring a healthy dose of patience if you plan on being out and about on Friday, Saturday, and/or Sunday.

You'll also need to bring an umbrella, a poncho, and perhaps some rain boots.

How Much Rain Are We Getting?

Depends on who you ask.

The National Weather Service in Shreveport is expecting the Lufkin area to get between 2 to 2.5 inches of rain between Friday and Christmas Day.

Other weather models show Deep East Texas getting less than two inches. I did see one computer simulation that showed Lufkin/Nacogdoches getting up to 4 inches of rain with pockets of 6-7 inches falling in areas around Tyler County.

I think it's safe to say that the Pineywoods will be experiencing a few downpours this upcoming weekend. Forecasters expect the rain chances to start late Thursday and continue all the way through late Christmas Eve.

When to Expect the Major Downpours

The heaviest rainfall totals are expected to happen during the daytime hours on December 24. Rain chances should dwindle as we get later into the night on Christmas Eve. It may not rain on Santa in East Texas, but thank goodness reindeer are already equipped with four-hoof drive.
