Is Driving in the Left Lane in Arkansas Breaking the Law?

You've seen it time and time again when driving through Arkansas slower vehicles are driving in the left lane while the right lane is clear.

Many times that is why the right lane becomes congested so you try to change over to the left lane but some yay-hoo is hogging the left lane so you can't get around them. and you wonder why there is so much road rage out there.

Did you know that's considered breaking the law in Aransas? It's totally illegal if the right lane is clear and you are driving in the left lane too slowly. If drivers are caught doing this they can be fined and driving too slow in the left lane can lead to more accidents on the road not to mention how frustrating it can be for another driver. If you are not actively passing another vehicle for traffic congestion it's best you stay in the right lane even if you are driving slower than the rest of the drivers.

The left lane is for PASSING ONLY and for emergency vehicles in case of an accident. I get it, some folks may choose to drive in the left lane because the right lane is rough and have too many potholes but you need to speed up and get back on the right lane as soon as you can. Unless there is a traffic accident or road construction up ahead that would probably be the exception to the rule.

Many of you may be aware of this law but according to the latest study either people don't know about this law or they just choose to ignore it. This has become a huge problem in Arkansas and in other states that may have the same law but until it gets enforced by law it will remain a problem. This matter has got a lot of people stirred up with their own opinions and thoughts and that's okay, it's a free country.
