It's always great to get an update on our local servicemen and women, especially when they are serving our country overseas.

We Love Getting Updates on Our Local Servicemen and Women

We just received an update from the Navy Office of Community Outreach. They collect photos of our sailors and then send the photos back to the sailor's hometowns.

Serving Aboard The USS Abraham Lincoln

Today we received word that Texarkana, Arkansas native, Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Handling) Airman Harley Hendrix was photographed as she helped direct a F/A-18 E Super Hornet on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln in the Philippine Sea. And all I can say is, Girls Rock!

LOOK: 100 years of American military history

LOOK: Milestones in women's history from the year you were born

Women have left marks on everything from entertainment and music to space exploration, athletics, and technology. Each passing year and new milestone makes it clear both how recent this history-making is in relation to the rest of the country, as well as how far we still need to go. The resulting timeline shows that women are constantly making history worthy of best-selling biographies and classroom textbooks; someone just needs to write about them.

Scroll through to find out when women in the U.S. and around the world won rights, the names of women who shattered the glass ceiling, and which country's women banded together to end a civil war.
