Chucky television series is in development by Syfy and original creator Don Mancini.

The murderous doll first appeared on the big screen in 1988 in Child's Play. As of 2017, the horror franchise consists of seven films, Cult of Chucky being the most recent release.

Mancini will be writing the script for the show and serving as executive producer along with David Kirschner, who produced all of the movies as well. The serial killing character became a pop culture icon and has since been featured in video games and comics, but this is the first time Chucky will have his own TV show.

Mancini announced the new series with NBCUniversal and said he has been interested in creating a series based on Chucky for a while. "The show will be a fresh take on the franchise, allowing us to explore Chucky's character with a depth that is uniquely afforded by the television series format, while staying true to the original vision that has terrorized audiences for over three decades now."

NBCU Cable Entertainment president Bill McGoldrick also said in the announcement, "It’s very rare that you get the opportunity to bring such an iconic character to your network, let alone with the original creator attached."

Though no further information has been provided about when the series will air, Chucky is already paying screens a visit this summer in a reboot of Child's PlayDirected by Lars Klevberg, the story is going to place a modern twist on the 1988 film and is set to hit theaters on June 21, though it is not related to the franchise written by Mancini.
