Breaking News: Television Star Bill Cosby Sentenced
On Tuesday, September 25th comedian and television star Bill Cosby was sentenced to three to ten years after being found guilty of sexual assault.
Prior to sentencing Judge Steven O'Neil ruled that Cosby be classified a "sexually violent predator."
As you may recall in April a jury found Cosby guilty of aggravated indecent assault against Andrea Constand. Originally Cosby was facing the possibility of spending thirty years behind bars. However, before sentencing Cosby was facing only a maximum of ten years in prison. Why the change? Attorneys on both sides of the case agreed to merge the three counts of his conviction into one. This was decided because all three charges came from the same event. Cosby's attorney requested house arrest for the star because of his age and blindness.
Throughout the allegations and the trial, Cosby maintained is innocence and claimed that any sexual encounters he had with his accusers were consensual. Bill Cosby is considered the first celebrity to be sentenced to prison for a sexual crime in the era of the Me Too movement.
