Long-Awaited ‘Avatar 2′ Delayed — Again
The long-awaited Avatar sequel has been delayed yet again. After nearly a decade of waiting to return to Pandora, fans will have to hold out a little longer.
The news comes as Disney and Fox have officially merged and offered updates on a number of upcoming releases. Avatar 2, which was originally slated for a December 2020 release, will now come out on Dec. 17, 2021.
As for the remaining three sequels, they will release the weekend before Christmas in alternating years. See all the release dates below:
AVATAR 2 (FOX) previously dated on 12/18/20 moves to 12/17/21
AVATAR 3 (FOX) previously dated on 12/17/21 moves to 12/22/23
AVATAR 4 (FOX) previously dated on 12/20/24 is now dated on 12/19/25
AVATAR 5 (FOX) previously dated on 12/19/25 moves to 12/17/27
Disney also announced three new Star Wars movies, which will be releasing in alternating years with the Avatar sequels. For Christmas 2022, there will be a Star Wars; in 2023, there will be Avatar 3, and so on. Series creator James Cameron is co-writing and directing all four Avatar sequels
This isn't the first time the sequel to the record breaking 2009 sci-fi epic has been pushed back, which was originally slated for a 2018 release.
