Lucasfilm Is Planning the Next 10 Years of ‘Star Wars’ Movies
With the current Star Wars trilogy set to conclude in 2019, some fans have already begun wondering what’s next for the prolific franchise. Lucasfilm has a few spinoffs in the works, including an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie (possibly with Ewan McGregor) and the upcoming Solo (which recently wrapped production), but the future of the core series hasn’t exactly been at the forefront of public discussion — until now.
Dustin Hoffman Accused of Sexual Harassing Former Production Assistant in 1985
Brett Ratner isn’t the only Hollywood heavyweight whose history of alleged sexual misconduct was exposed today. Around the same time that The LA Times published their extensive report on Ratner, The Hollywood Reporter ran a guest column from Anna Graham Hunter, an author and former production assistant who alleges that Dustin Hoffman sexually harassed and forcibly groped her on the set of a 1985 TV film.
Helen Mirren Is Haunted as Hell in the ‘Winchester: The House That Ghosts Built’ Trailer
Many California residents are undoubtedly familiar with the story of Sarah Winchester — or at the very least, the house she lived in, which is now a tourist attraction. It’s also the subject of the new horror film, Winchester: The House That Ghosts Built, starring Helen Mirren as the titular widow. As you can see in the first trailer, the movie is really pushing the haunted AF house angle.
What’s Leaving Netflix: November 2017
Alright, you know the drill: Just as the Netflix lords giveth, so too must they taketh away — which is to say that as dozens of new movies and TV shows hit the streaming service next month, several will be making their exit…possibly for good. November’s expiring titles include a handful of Wachowskis faves (including The Matrix trilogy), Twilight (sorry, YA lovers), Martin Scorsese’s Hugo, and all nine seasons of How I Met Your Mother.
New Netflix Instant Releases: November 2017
Attention, Chappie fans. Your time has finally come. Neill Blomkamp’s bizarre sci-fi experiment is arriving on Netflix in November. This is truly a momentous occasion for all five of you. As for the rest of us, a bunch of other new titles are coming to the streaming service next month, including Sundance favorite Mudbound, along with the debut seasons of Marvel’s The Punisher and the Steven Soderbergh-produced western Godless.
See How the ‘Blade Runner 2049’ Team Created That Breathtaking Cameo
If you haven’t seen Blade Runner 2049 yet (dude, what is your deal), you’ll want to avoid reading any further. The below post contains a MAJOR SPOILER for Denis Villeneuve’s sequel to Ridley Scott’s sci-fi classic, which recaptured the spirit of its predecessor in more ways than one — particularly as it’s already become an under seen (and under-appreciated) piece of cinematic art. Beyond that, not only does Blade Runner 2049 recreate — and elevate — the gorgeously dreary atmosphere of Scott’s original, but it also recreated one of its most fantastic elements.
‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Image Reveals New Look at Laura Dern (Plus Another BB Droid!)
The recent trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi gave us a pretty hefty preview of the latest chapter in the saga, but amid all that new footage, a few things were missing — chiefly Laura Dern, who plays the violet-haired Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo (what a name!). We’ve seen Dern in costume before, but a new image circulating online gives us a fresh sneak peek at her exciting Star Wars character…and reveals another BB unit.
Oliver Stone Defends Harvey Weinstein, Is Promptly Accused of Sexual Harassment
Filmmaker Oliver Stone has waded into the Harvey Weinstein scandal, suggesting that perhaps it takes a purveyor of toxic masculinity to know one. As many men in Hollywood and around the country this week are learning, women never forget. We keep our receipts, be them in our hands or in our heads. Not long after Stone spoke out to defend Weinstein against the growing number of sexual assault and harassment allegations (and subsequently attempted to backtrack), his own history of sexual misconduct has resurfaced.
The ‘Men in Black’ Are Coming Back With a New Spinoff in 2019
On the heels of today’s Charlie’s Angels casting news, Sony has set an official release date for another major potential franchise relaunch. A new Men in Black spinoff / reboot will hit theaters in 2019, taking audiences back to the hidden world of secret-secret-agents and aliens. Not to be confused with that long-rumored 21 Jump Street crossover (more on that in a moment), this one will introduce new characters while honoring the established universe of its predecessors.
What’s Expiring From Netflix: October 2017
By now you’ve probably heard that 30 Rock is leaving Netflix Instant, and if you’re anything like me, you are distraught. Inconsolable, even. The good news is that we still have Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Parks and Recreation, so there’s that, at least. Anyway, 30 Rock isn’t the only title expiring from Netflix in October, so let’s commence the mourning, shall we?
New Netflix Instant Releases: October 2017
Let’s just get this out of the way up front: Yes, the highly-anticipated second season of Stranger Things is coming to Netflix in October. If you’re a fan of the ’80s throwback sci-fi series, that’s probably the only new release you’re thinking about right now...
Jamie Lee Curtis to Reprise Iconic ‘Halloween’ Role for New Film
Here’s a surprising bit of news for your Friday: Jamie Lee Curtis is returning to the Halloween franchise to reprise her iconic role as Laurie Strode in David Gordon Green’s new sequel. As Blumhouse CEO Jason Blum promised earlier this week, that film – simply titled Halloween — will arrive in 2018. If it doesn’t meet that deadline, Blum says you can kill him. (But, you know, don’t do that.)
