A&M-Texarkana to Host Siminar on Aquatic Insects
The Texas A&M University-Texarkana College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics will host a STEM-N-ar on “Aquatic Insects: Water Quality Indicators and Fish Food” on Thursday evening in Science and Technology 101 on the A&M-Texarkana campus, 7101 University Ave., Texarkana, Texas.
The keynote speaker will be Dr. Donald H. Dean, emeritus professor of biochemistry and former chair of the biochemistry program at The Ohio State University.
According to Dr. Dean, stoneflies are indicators of the highest quality streams in Ohio. They are a favorite food for trout, and every fly-fisher should be able to recognize them.
Stoneflies also can be useful in determining pollution in water courses.
The community is invited to join Dr. Dean, A&M-Texarkana faculty and industry partners for a voyage of discovery using these fascinating insects as indicators of water quality and the types of pollution present in the nation’s water courses.
Networking will begin at 5:30 p.m. The STEM-N-ar will get underway at 6:30 p.m. with a question-and-answer session to follow. Light refreshments will be served.
