Getting to midnight on New Year's Eve is the easy part. Seeing how long you can make it after that is tougher than finding elbow room in Times Square a minute before the ball drops.

Fitness tracking site Jawbone has used sleep data from its members to figure out where people stay up latest on New Year's Eve.

In the US, the Big Apple is the place to be if you want the party to keep going long after the calendar flips to January. People in Astoria, Queens stay up long past the bewitching hour, not going to bed until 2:38 a.m., leading a parade of New York boroughs which landed in the top five.

1. Astoria (Queens), NY 2:38 a.m.
2. Bronx, NY 2:21 a.m.
3. Brooklyn, NY 2:11 a.m.
4. New York, NY 1:59 a.m.
5. Miami, FL 1:45 a.m.

If you think that's late, you will nyet believe how deep into the wee hours people in Russia can go. No one stays up longer than them on New Year's Eve, with Moscow the hardest party animals:

1. Moscow, Russia 3:43 a.m.
2. St. Petersburg, Russia 3:35 a.m.
3. Kiev, Ukraine 3:35 a.m.
4. Buenos Aires, Argentina 3:09 a.m.
5. Madrid, Spain 3:07 a.m.

So, make sure to take your Vivarin and prepare to guzzle some champagne (although we question the wisdom and healthiness of that combo). It's going to be a long night -- longer for some.

How long will you stay up on New Year's? Midnight? 1:00? 2:00? Or will you wuss out and call it a year before the late local news?
