It's almost graduation time at SAU. Southern Arkansas University’s fall 2020 commencement ceremony will take place Saturday, Nov. 21, at Wilkins Stadium starting at 9AM.

The event will be held outside and there are 199 undergraduate and 103 graduate candidates for graduation. Dr. Scott White, Honor Professor and acting dean of the College of Science and Engineering will deliver the keynote address. Commencement will be streamed live on the SAU Facebook page.

A note to all the graduating candidates, they need to start to gathering on the SAU Track north of Wilkins Stadium at 8 a.m.

According to a press release, SAU will follow CDC guidelines for the ceremony. Face coverings must be worn by every attendee over the age of 10. Guests should enter the stadium through the home (west) entrance gate and will be directed to an appropriate seating area. Seating will be designed for social distancing, and guests are asked to comply with marked areas.

Guests are encouraged to dress for outdoor temperatures and to bring plenty of water to hydrate. Temperatures can vary significantly during November, so guests are advised to check the forecast prior to the ceremony. Guests are asked to not scream or yell to prevent potential viral spread. Those who yell may be asked to leave the stadium.

“This is a very special time for our University,” said Dr. Trey Berry, SAU president. “Our students and our faculty have met the challenges this semester has brought due to all of the unknowns of COVID. We are so thankful that we have been able to complete this semester on campus, and we celebrate the great accomplishments of these students!”

Tickets will not be required for attendance at the commencement ceremony.
