Perhaps you may have noticed the increase in military air traffic in the skies above Texarkana recently.  A few different aircraft have been using the Texarkana airport in training exercises.

The planes we see training more than any, are stationed at Little Rock Air Force Base. The base is home to three C-130 units, the 19th Airlift Wing, the 314th Airlift Wing and the 189th Airlift Wing (Air National Guard).

The 314th is the “school house” for initial C-130 training, and instructor upgrade training.

Steve Luebbert from Texarkana Regional Airport said,

The school uses our pattern for training because the air base only has one runway and the airspace can get a bit congested.  Our proximity to Military Operating Areas (MOAs) permit the C-130s and A-10s to train tactics in the MOAs (200’-1000’ above the ground) and then pop into TXK for some “pattern work.”

I can't wait for the next time the A-10's are training... I am trying to set up an opportunity to get some really good pics for you...
