Metallica ‘Freeze ‘Em All’ in Antarctica

It took them more than 30 years to do it, but it’s official: Metallica have rocked every continent on Earth.

As we previously reported, the metal legends descended upon Antarctica on Dec. 8 for ‘Freeze ‘Em All,’ a special concert that found the band ditching their amplifiers and performing a 10-song set under a small dome for a select crowd of contest winners.

Obviously, most Metallica fans weren’t able to be at the show, but the band offered a little behind-the-scenes perspective on Facebook, where they posted a concert recap as well as a slew of photos:

This was the most unique show Metallica has ever done. The band, contest winners, research station scientists (from Russia, South Korea, China, Poland, Chile, Brazil and Germany) and the ship crew all crammed in this little dome out on the helipad of Carlini Station in ANTARCTICA! The energy in the little dome was amazing! Words can not describe how happy everyone was.

The band cranked out 10 songs for the small crowd including Creeping Death, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Sad but True, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), Master of Puppets, One, Blackened, Nothing Else Matters, Enter Sandman and Seek & Destroy.
No word on if there were any penguins [in] attendance.#FreezeEmAll

The ‘Freeze ‘Em All’ show caps off a busy year for Metallica, during which they brought back their Orion Music + More Festival and unveiled their 3D concert film ‘Through the Never.’ They’ll be back on the road in 2014, with a full slate of European dates already lined up for the summer.
