Carroll Shelby, creator of the Shelby Cobra, passed away in Dallas last night at the age of 89, he had been in the hospital for pneumonia.

Yes, he created the famous Shelby Cobras, and Shelby Mustangs, but one of his biggest accomplishments that he was most proud of was the 1,2,3, finish with his cars at the 1966 24 hours of LeMans, ending Ferrari's hold on the event.

Carrol Shelby grew up in Texas, and was a chicken farmer until all of his birds died one year, and he made the move to full-time auto racing, which had been a hobby until that point.  Shelby said many times,

I never made a damn dime until I started doing what I wanted."

People started talking about his health when he failed to make it to the New York Auto Show to unveil his latest creation, the 950 horse-power Shelby 1000.

He will be missed, but never forgotten...  RIP Carroll Shelby.
