Texas A&M University-Texarkana will celebrate meeting its fall 2016 enrollment goal and kick off its “Leave Your Mark: Recruit an Eagle” peer recruitment campaign with a live tattoo event on Monday, Oct. 24, from 11AM to 1PM in the lobby of the University Center.

Last fall, Kathy Williams, vice president of Student Enrollment, Engagement and Success at A&M-Texarkana, accepted a challenge from Director of Admissions Toney Favors to be tattooed with an Eagle if fall 2016 enrollment goals were met.

Williams considers it a win-win.

The university met its goal with a record 30 percent increase in freshman enrollment over last year. Subsequently, students, faculty and staff voted on their favorite tattoo design from three options.

Without knowing which design was selected, Williams will be tattooed with the winning tattoo design at the event. Texarkana Ink will provide the tattoo services.

The public is invited to attend the event, and it will be streamed live on the Texas A&M University-Texarkana Facebook page.  An announcement will be made at noon regarding next year’s event, provided enrollment goals for fall 2017 are met.

“Toney and I were having a discussion last year regarding how we could motivate the entire campus community to work together to meet our enrollment goals for this fall, and we decided that we needed to come up with something fun in order to get everyone involved,”  Williams said. “In a moment of weakness, I agreed to get the tattoo.  Now it’s time to deliver!”

The “Leave Your Mark: Recruit an Eagle” peer recruitment campaign encourages students to share their A&M-Texarkana stories and experiences with prospective students in person and via social media with the #RecruitAnEagle hashtag.

Students who recruit a minimum of 35 prospective undergraduate or graduate students to complete a survey will receive an A&M-Texarkana sweatshirt of their choice from the campus bookstore. Students may also earn a sweatshirt by speaking to groups and collecting a minimum of 20 inquiry cards.

Students who collect a minimum of 35 survey participants and 20 inquiry cards will receive a sweatshirt and a T-shirt.

The student who provides the greatest number of recruits also will receive a $100 bookstore gift certificate. The winner of the gift certificate will be announced the first week of the spring semester. Students may continue to submit survey results and inquiry cards for individual prizes until that time.
