It may be more difficult to make a living as a musician in the modern era, but there are some acts who are still thriving, even in the rock world. Forbes magazine has released its annual Highest Paid Musicians list and both AC/DC and Foo Fighters have made the cut. The list tallies income from June 1, 2015, through June 1, 2016, which explains why an act like Guns N’ Roses did not make the list despite raking in millions of dollars during their summer tour.

Foo Fighters largely took 2016 off, but money rolling in from their previous year’s touring and the late 2015 release of the St. Cecelia EP helped to power them to No. 21 on the list at $48.5 million, one slot behind Muse at $49 million.

AC/DC had the biggest impact of any hard rock band on the list, with their massive tour that included the switch from Brian Johnson early in the year to Axl Rose after Johnson’s hearing issues sidelined the vocalist. Forbes had the band earning $67.5 million, good enough for seventh on the list, sandwiched between the Rolling Stones and Garth Brooks.

Other acts of note on the list included U2 at No. 15 ($55 million) and Paul McCartney at $56.5 million, while pop stars Adele and One Direction settled for third and second right behind Taylor Swift, who topped the list at $170 million earned. Swift’s total not only included her music sales and touring, but also commercial endorsements. See the Forbes Richest Musician List in full here.
