There is a new director at the shelter. His name is Charles Lokey. This is the most recent update at the Animal Care and Adoption Center in Texarkana, Arkansas.

We wanted to update everyone on what is happening at the shelter. We have hired a permanent director, Charles Lokey, who started yesterday. We are very excited about what his experience will bring to our shelter.

We have made several changes at this point. One is that no one will be allowed downstairs without an employee with them. We will be using this as our isolation area, to assure that pets brought to the adoption floor are healthy enough to leave the shelter. We are also going to be doing some deep cleaning to assure that the pets placed in the shelter will not be put in cages where there is disease.

However, if you are looking for a lost pet or volunteering by giving dogs baths, etc., you are welcome to go down as long as an employee is with you. With experience comes knowledge.

There are shelter protocols that we are attempting to put in place and we hope you will work with us and understand. Rescues, of course, will continue to be able to pull dogs at no charge.

We are working on several upcoming adoption events to help us get the population down. We hope to get those in the works soon. Again, please bear with us as we try to make the changes that need to be made to move us forward!
