Main Street Texarkana announced late Saturday night that the 41st Annual Christmas Parade in downtown Texarkana will now take place Monday, December 15 at 7 PM. The postponement of the parade comes after forecasts called for inclement weather tonight, December 1, the original date, prompting organizers to make a careful decision with community safety in mind.

Safety Comes First in Postponing Texarkana Christmas Parade

Main Street Texarkana Director Ina McDowell said in a press release,

We know many families, participants, and the community look forward to this festive celebration each year; however, ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone involved is our top priority.  Thank you for your understanding, flexibility, and continued support of Main Street Texarkana. We appreciate our community and hope you stay safe and warm throughout the incoming weather.

This was definitely a good call to make as the forecast is calling for still a chance of rain throughout the day and into the early evening, with an overnight low of 26 tonight.
