Another lucky visitor found a diamond at Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro, Arkansas. And it was a big diamond, the biggest found so far this year.

David DeCook and his brother are both from Stewarville, Minnesota but they have been coming to Crater of Diamonds for years and they have found diamonds in the past, but on April 21? Nothing like this one!

They were there for about an hour when David decided to walk down a hill near the South Wash Pavilion. That's when he saw it, a shiny 'something' on the ground.

David said in a press release, he first thought it was a candy wrapper, then he realized it had a metallic tinfoil-like shine and that's when he knew what it was that he had found.

He walked over to his brother and teased,

Oh, you're going to be mad once you see what I found!

He put the diamond in his pocket and brought it back to the park a few days later to have it officially verified and registered.  The diamond he found has a coppery shine and a triangular shape. David named the diamond 'The Duke Diamond' after his dog.

I've always heard that you have a better chance at finding a diamond after a big rain. The park staff confirmed that theory saying that with all the rain lately, the diamonds tend to come to the top of the surface.

This year, 220 diamonds have been registered at the park, totaling over 32 carats!

Who is ready to go diamond hunting? You can find out more information and plan your visit to Crater of Diamonds State Park, too!
