
Texarkana Harvest Moon Rises in October: All You Need to Know
Do you remember the big, bright Harvest Moon in the animated classic, "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown?
The Harvest SuperMoon is Coming!
That is still one of my all-time favorite shows. October is less than 10 days away, and our next full moon will be a supermoon or the Harvest Moon. Just like the Great Pumpkin rising out of the pumpkin patch, the October full moon will rise during the first week of October.
When Can We See the Harvest Moon in October?
The harvest moon's peak illumination is on Monday, Oct. 6, at 10:48 p.m. central time, according to Space.com. In addition, look for Saturn in the evening sky, and right before sunrise, Venus will be visible with Jupiter high in the southeastern sky.
According to NASA, the moon's orbit brings it closer to Earth, which makes it appear up to 14% bigger and 30% brighter to the observer.

Texarkana, if you're looking forward to the next full moon, then you won't have to wait long: It rises during the first week of October. Because of its proximity to its point in orbit, it's called a supermoon.

Native American Indians also called the Harvest moon the Hunter's moon. Its brightness was utilized for harvesting by farmers to help complete their harvests before the colder weather settled in. The hunter's moon also allows hunters to stalk and prey animals for food late in the evening.

October's full moon always falls nearest to the autumn equinox.
