At the start of the new year, the weather in Arkansas has been very unpredictable, with temperatures going from cold to spring-like every week. It's as if Mother Nature can't make up her mind.

Driest Period on Record in the State of Arkansas Prompts Burn Ban

In addition, with not much rain over the last month and a half, local officials have imposed a burn ban for the potential risk of wildfires in Northwest Arkansas. The central parts of the state are also being affected, but just like a wildfire spreading, a portion of Southwest Arkansas is now included in the burn bans.

According to THV11, this has been one of the driest on record, with Little Rock taking 5th place as the driest of all time.

List of Burn Bans Currently in Effect Across Arkansas

Benton County, Cleburne County, Columbia County, Conway County, Franklin County, Hempstead County, Lafayette County, Polk County, Sevier County, Van Buren County, Washington County, and Yell County.

More counties may be added depending on weather conditions or until the state gets a significant amount of rainfall.

Rain Possible in the Southern Region of Arkansas This Week

Changes could be on the way this week for a portion of Arkansas, mainly in the southern sections, as a strong cold front is expected to move through the state, with the potential of rain or severe storms on Thursday and Friday.
