Cameras Up For Tonight’s Super Harvest Moon Over Texarkana
This morning, on the way into work at 4:50 AM in Texarkana, I noticed the moon was huge and extremely bright! Not quite a full moon yet, but very close to it, and so unbelievably bright it was hard not to sit and stare at it, much to the irritation of the guy behind me at a stoplight. Sorry about that.
This Would Explain It - The Harvest Supermoon Is Tonight
Tonight, October 6, 2025, is one of three Supermoons this year. This one is called the Harvest Moon, and according to Almanac.com, this is the brightest of the Supermoons for 2025.
What Is A Supermoon?
The moon's orbit around the Earth is not a perfect circle; it's elliptical, which means sometimes it's closer than others. When it's closer to us and reaches full moon status at the same time, presto, we have a supermoon. The moon becomes noticeably larger and brighter during these times, about 13% closer and 30% brighter!
The best time for picture taking tonight is 10:48 PM.
Since the moon appears larger when rising and setting, it's the perfect time for moon photographers, pros or not, to attempt another great shot of Earth's tide-maker.

The image above was taken last year, about this same time, with my Superzoom Kodak. I don't think that's the actual name of the camera, but that's what it does. I got that shot, by hand, elbows resting on the back of my pickup, if you can believe that. It's very hard to keep the camera still for a super-zoomed-in shot like that, but I got kinda lucky on this one, even though it came out a little fuzzy.
Cloud cover might be an issue for our area tonight; fingers crossed for clear skies.
By the way, I recommend a tripod. Good luck!
