The Bill Finger Award for Excellence in Comic Book Writing is an annual award given to two comic book writers — one living and one deceased — who are judged not to have received their rightful recognition, and when it was established in 2005, the inaugural award for living writer was given to Arnold Drake. Despite this official acknowledgment of his achievement in writing, you may still not recognize his name. Whether he's been a villain, a lethal protector, or even a space knight, Venom is a character who really seems to scratch that "Spider-Man but bigger and with more teeth" itch that fans apparently have. As we all know, comics, and especially superhero comics, are gratuitously violent slugfests that corrupt the morals of children by telling them that we can solve all our problems with our fists and/or lasers. As such, there have been literally tens of thousands of punches thrown across the history of the superhero, and what I have done here is diligently scoured and subsequently rated each one on a 100-point scale so that I might objectively rate the five very best, rather than just writing about five different punches that seemed especially notable to me at the time I was composing this script, which I definitely did not do. No sir.

If you spend as much time thinking about comics as I do, you probably find yourself creating hypothetical-based thought experiments about super-team line-ups and such. Usually I only share them with Chris Sims, who then goes on to turn them into an Ask Chris and get paid for my idea. [cough] But a few weeks ago, I took to Twitter to ask people who they would recruit for an all-female, seven-member Justice League. The response at the time was great, with lots of interesting variation in potential team rosters, but then the idea got a bump again when artists started posting drawings of their ideal Justice Ladies teams on Twitter and Tumblr. I've collected nine such line-ups, including my own, which kicked everything off, but you can check my Twitter feed to see all the responses I received.
