One of my favorite places to visit each holiday season is the Wonderland of Lights festival in historic Marshall, Texas.

The event, which was started back in 1987, has grown over the years into a huge tourist attraction for the city of Marshall. Wonderland of lights features thousands of lights that illuminate the historic Harrison Country Courthouse and the downtown area. The festival also features an ice skating rink ($10 per hour), carriage rides ($15), Santa's Workshop & Mrs. Claus' Kitchen and plenty of holiday fun with live musical entertainment.

The festival runs through December 31 and will be open from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. weeknights and 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. (No activities Christmas Eve) Santa’s Workshop and Mrs. Claus’ Kitchen will run through Dec. 23.

The 2014 Marshall Lions Club “Lighted” Wonderland of Lights Christmas parade is set 6 p.m. Dec. 6, also in downtown, and is sponsored by East Texas Baptist University.

If you want to get into the holiday spirit take the short drive to Marshall and enjoy the Wonderland of Lights.
