It is a question that has haunted mankind for decades: What is a snozzberry and what does it smell like? (Also, why is is it spelled with two z’s?) At last this great mystery shall be revealed, at a special screening of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory in Los Angeles with guests, live performances, projections and “exclusive Scratch-N-Sniff Golden Tickets.”

In what must surely be a first, the original (read: good) Willy Wonka movie will be shown at the Hollywood Bowl this November 3 and 4, in what Warner Bros. is calling a “Live-To-Film Celebration.” The classic movie will screen, but the musical numbers will be performed live, by a cast that includes John Stamos as Willy Wonka, Stranger Things’ Finn Wolfhard as Charlie, and the great “Weird Al” Yankovic as the Oompah Loompas. That is some inspired casting right there.

Plus, in addition to a costume contest, this special event is being presented in “Smell-O-Rama.” According to the press release, “at the right moments they will be experiencing the aromas like chocolate and bubble gum. Even the Snozzberries will smell like Snozzberries.” But what will the snozzberries smell like?!?

Smell-O-Vision, or similar systems of movies projected with appropriate scents, have been done before. The most famous example is probably John Waters’ Polyester, which was projected in “Odorama,” where guests got scratch-and-sniff cards that they’d use at specific moments of the movie. But, in true Waters’ style, some of the smells were gross (unless you’re a fan of smelling farts and skunks). This Willy Wonka screening will be the first smelly screening in a while with smells you might actually want to sample. And if one of the cast members’ singing is bad you can scream “It stinks!” and they won’t get offended because they’ll assume you’re talking about the scratch-and-sniff cards.

Tickets for this special Willy Wonka screening go on sale at Ticketmaster.com on Saturday, September 23 at 10AM PST.
