The Who ran through a rare complete live performance of their classic Tommy LP at the Royal Albert Hall in the spring of 2017, and soon fans everywhere will be able to experience the show.

Tommy – Live at the Royal Albert Hall, scheduled for an Oct. 13 release and available to pre-order now, captures the 100th show in the concert series hosted at the venue by the Teenage Cancer Trust, the organization started by Who co-founders Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend. As Townshend told Rolling Stone, it was initially Daltrey's idea to tackle Tommy — an album that's been almost completely performed live on a number of occasions, but typically in a truncated form.

"I was worried about how loud it is in the Royal Albert Hall when we do a standard rock show. It's terrifying," said Townshend. "I usually feel like I'm blowing out the last little range of what's left of my hearing when we play there. So I said, 'Can we do something a little quieter?' He suggested we look at Tommy, and I thought about it. So we're gonna do it, but we're gonna do it in a new way."

While initial plans called for an acoustic performance of the album, they were foiled by sound issues at the venue; as Daltrey told the crowd on the evening of the show, "It would have taken about four weeks of rehearsals and the charity wouldn’t have made any money, so we thought 'F--- it.'"

The Tommy live package, available on Blu-ray and DVD as well as CD, vinyl, and digital formats, adds some extra content for fans who purchase the concert film: In addition to the live footage, which you can sample via the trailer embedded above, the DVD and Blu-ray include a behind-the-scenes featurette and full-screen animations of “The Acid Queen” and “Pinball Wizard."
