UACCH-Texarkana to Expand Campus

The Texarkana campus of the University of Arkansas Community College/Hope will be expanding.

Based upon motion by Trustee John Goodson, the University of Arkansas System Board of Trustees approved the construction of an additional educational facility on the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope’s Texarkana Campus.   The approved construction of an additional educational facility at UACCH-Texarkana will facilitate the College’s plans to expand program offerings at the Texarkana campus to meet the needs of its growing student population, which has increased thirty-five percent from the fall of 2012 to fall of 2013. The construction of this new facility is planned to begin early next year and will add an additional 18,000 to 20,000 square feet of educational space on the 22 acre campus located along Interstate 30 at 3501 U of A Way in Texarkana, Arkansas.

College Chancellor Chris Thomason said, “Today’s approval of the University of Arkansas System Board of Trustees to double our educational space is very exciting for our Texarkana Campus, our students, and the Texarkana community. The U of A System Board continues to exhibit strong support for enhancement of the U of A’s presence in Texarkana to better serve the students of the region.  This facility would not be possible without the leadership of State Senator Jimmy Hickey.”

Funding for the new educational facility was provided by the 89^th General Assembly through the leadership of Texarkana’s State Senator Hickey, who, along with Representative Hickerson, worked to provide funding to expedite the Texarkana campus expansion to meet student and community needs.  Board action in Friday’s meeting also approved Harris Architect for the project, which will allow this project to move forward in preparation for ground breaking early in 2014.
