U.S. Highway to be Widened in Bowie County

U.S. Highway 259 in Western Bowie County Texas is about to be widened.According to plans approved this month by the Texas Department of Transportation about 11.6 miles of highway will be widened. The work will be from just south of the Oklahoma state line to just north of U.S. Highway 82 in DeKalb.

Engineers say they will be adding 10 foot pave shoulders on each side. NE-TEX Construction of New Boston has been awarded the contract for the project with a low bid of $3.7 million dollars.

Work on the project should being in September of this year and take about a year and a half to complete.
