The Texas Department of Transportation is hosting two open houses for the US 59 Texarkana-Queen City Route Study.

The first will be in Queen City this evening, at Morris Upchurch Middle School, 500 5th St., Queen City, TX, 75572 and the second will be on Thursday at Liberty-Eylau High School, 2905 Leopard Dr., Texarkana, TX 75501. The open houses will be a come-and-go format from 5–7 p.m. The public is invited to attend, ask questions, and provide input on the study. This project is in the early planning stages and public involvement will be ongoing throughout project development.

TxDOT is conducting this planning study to develop and evaluate potential route options to extend Interstate 369 (I-369) from I-369/SL 151 southwest of Texarkana to FM 2327 north of Queen City. This section of US 59 in Bowie and Cass Counties will become part of the Interstate 69 system and be designated as I-369 upon meeting interstate standards and connecting to existing I-369. US 59 in this area does not currently meet interstate standards. The US 59 Texarkana-Queen City Route Study is intended to:

  • Establish the purpose and need for the project
  • Characterize the environmental setting
  • Develop and screen route options that would extend I-369 to determine which one(s) should be advanced for further detailed schematic design and environmental study

Identical maps and displays will be available for review and staff will be present to answer questions. Comments on the study will be accepted until August 10, 2018 and comment forms can be submitted at the open house or by mail to the TxDOT Atlanta District, 701 E. Main St., Atlanta, TX 75551, Attn: Deanne Simmons, P.E. For more information on the study and open houses, or to submit an online comment, visit their website, keyword search “US 59 Texarkana-Queen City Route Study”. For those that cannot attend the open houses, an online survey will be available on the project website.
