An overnight traffic accident in Texarkana has claimed a life.Texas Side Police have released the following information.

Officers were dispatched to Loop 151 and Leopard Drive at 12:04 a.m. after the 9-1-1 communications center received a notification from OnStar Telematics Call Center that a collision had occurred at that location. When officers arrived, they found a 2008 GMC pickup truck in the roadway on Leopard Drive. Benjamin Carl Hegwood, 45, of Ashdown, Arkansas was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Nancy Talley.
 
According to Sergeant Mike Harris, Hegwood was northbound on Loop 151 when his vehicle left the roadway and entered the median about 200 feet from the Leopard Drive overpass.  His vehicle then went airborne off the bridge’s embankment before dropping to the roadway below. Hegwood’s vehicle continued across Leopard Drive before striking the embankment on the other side of the roadway where it rolled over and came to rest on its wheels.
 
The cause of the accident remains under investigation. Hegwood’s body was sent to Dallas for an autopsy. There were no other occupants in the vehicle at the time of the accident.  He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
