We’ve been keeping an eye toward TNT’s forthcoming noir crime drama ‘Mob City,’ not only for its impressive star pedigree, but especially for the involvement of former ‘Walking Dead‘ showrunner Frank Darabont. Our longest look yet at the gritty new drama has arrived in a brand-new trailer, along with synopses of the first few hours we’ll spend in TNT’s ‘Mob City’!
We’ve seen the first few episodes, but TNT’s new mob drama goes far beyond the inaugural hours to highlight the gritty violence and gangsters of the series, spearheaded by ‘Walking Dead’ star Jon Bernthal as Detective Joe Teague (and sporting some familiar looking facial injuries, while we’re at it). Along with the impressive trailer above, TNT released the first two synopses for series premiere “A Guy Walks Into a Bar,” and “Reason to Kill a Man”:
Episode 1.01 – A Guy Walks Into a Bar
Hecky Nash (guest star Simon Pegg) bribes police detective Joe Teague (Jon Bernthal) to protect him during a dangerous blackmail scheme involving the Los Angeles mob. Seeing this as a perfect opportunity to bring down one of the city’s most infamous mobsters, the Los Angeles police force looks to Teague for key information in hopes of crippling the heart of L.A.’s organized crime.
Episode 1.02 – Reason to Kill a Man
Hal Morrison (Jeffrey DeMunn) and Captain William Parker (Neal McDonough) interrogate Jasmine (Alexa Davalos) in a desperate attempt to gain insight into Hecky Nash’s blackmail scheme. Keeping a close eye on Jasmine, Joe discovers she’s hiding a secret that could cost her her life. Meanwhile, Sid (Robert Knepper) and Terry (guest star Richard Brake) get a tip that leads to a violent display of revenge.
Written and directed by Frank Darabont, ‘Mob City’ revolves around the police force’s pursuit of mobster Mickey Cohen and takes its basis from John Buntin’s book “L.A. Noir: The Struggle For the Soul of America’s Most Seductive City,” which recounts the story of decades-long conflicts between the LAPD and the city’s criminals.
The all-star cast includes Bernthal, Jeffrey DeMunn, Simon Pegg, Neal McDonough as LAPD Chief Parker, Ed Burns as Bugsy Siegel, ‘Prison Break’ star Robert Knepper, ‘Heroes’ alum Milo Ventimiglia ‘24‘ vet Louis Lombardi, Iddo Goldberg, ‘LOST‘ and ‘Mad Men‘ alum Patrick Fischler, ‘Anger Management‘ star Stephen Monroe, ‘Ghostbusters‘ star Ernie Hudson, and Alexa Davalos.
