If you're like us, you may have been a little underwhelmed by the first 'Hobbit' movie, but the latest trailer for Peter Jackson's 'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug' seems not only action packed, but lacking in any scenes featuring long meals or songs.

Though it does nudge similarities to the 'Lord of the Rings' films (hey look, there's the giant spider, and over here is Orlando Bloom!), this trailer shows a very large canvas, and new footage that delivers a lot of wow. Considering there's no way it takes more than an hour for this film to get started, perhaps Jackson needed a film to get back into the swing of things.

'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug' hits theaters December 13. Here's the film's synopsis:

Having survived the beginning of their unexpected journey, the Company continues East, encountering along the way the skin-changer Beorn and a swarm of giant Spiders in the treacherous forest of Mirkwood. After escaping capture by the dangerous Wood-elves, the Dwarves journey to Lake-town, and finally to the Lonely Mountain itself, where they must face the greatest danger of all—a creature more terrifying than any other; one which will test not only the depth of their courage but the limits of their friendship and the wisdom of the journey itself—the Dragon Smaug.
