Silly Nicknames for Our Pets

John Monaghan

Some of were talking about our pets and the “pet” names we have for them.  My husband John and I have a ton of names for our two cats Albert and Gretchen. So many names, that I wonder if they even really know their names!

Let see, Gretchen’s names are Grich Gretch, Mongesteeeeen, Ma-ging-jang and Sweetest girl in the Whole Wide World! Albert’s are Albesqua, Albert-Ma-Wawlbert, Big ol’ Boy, and we call him Mongesteeen too. Maybe they will come to any name or word if I said it lovingly!

My sweet furry children are pictured above! Yes, Albert and Gretchen just waiting for me to call them cute cuddly names!

Do you have pet names for your dog or cat? What are they?

It makes sense to have pet names for your pets because of their unconditional love and they make you feel so good.  Whether you have a dog, cat, parrot, hamster or even a goldfish, owning a pet has so many health benefits!

Did you know?

  • Pet owners are less likely to suffer from depression than those without pets.
  • People with pets have lower blood pressure in stressful situations than those without pets.
  • Playing with a pet can elevate levels of serotonin and dopamine, which calm and relax.
  • Pet owners have lower triglyceride and cholesterol levels (indicators of heart disease) than those without pets.
  • Heart attack patients with pets survive longer than those without.
  • Pet owners over age 65 make 30 percent fewer visits to their doctors than those without pets.
  • A pet doesn’t have to be a dog or a cat. Even watching fish in an aquarium can help reduce muscle tension and pulse rate.

No wonder we love them so much!
