The City of Texarkana, Texas has placed an employee on leave.

According to a press release from City officials, Christopher Wilgus, 43, was involved in a motor vehicle collision while driving a City vehicle at W. 40th Street and Rio Grande Avenue. The accident occurred around noon on Tuesday.

Police say no injuries were reported in the minor traffic accident. However, when officers arrived on the scene, they allege Wilgus performed poorly on field sobriety tests.

Upon further investigation, Wilgus was taken into custody and charged with a Class A misdemeanor for driving while intoxicated.

The accident is under investigation, after which disciplinary action will be determined.
However, City officials say normally the punishment for a city employee who is driving while intoxicated is termination from employment.
