Texarkana Native Tatoo Artist’s Work To Be Featured At Texas A&M University Texarkana

According to a press release issued Wednesday, March 1 2017 from Carol Langston, Director of Communications at Texas A&M University Texarkana:

TEXARKANA, Texas – “Duality” featuring the works of watercolor tattoo artist Joel Wright will be the focus of an art exhibition hosted by the John F. Moss Library at Texas A&M University-Texarkana March 7 to April 28 on the third floor of the University Center.

A self-taught artist and Texarkana, Texas, native, Wright has created art and tattoos professionally since 1999. His expressive dream-like paintings have been described as “celestial or ethereal.”

Wright paints oil paintings on linen, paper, canvas and wood substrates. Watercolor on paper and water media on canvas are mediums he also uses to express his artwork.

While he will occasionally present screen printing, ceramic sculpture or mixed media sculptures in addition to his paintings, he says he doesn’t limit himself to any one medium but sees them as “branches of the same tree.”

His Zen approach to painting is an attempt to become "completely accepting of what is before painting from a deep but simple inward place from beyond the structural mind,” he explains. "In other words, just having fun.”

Wright says he loves to see viewers’ emotionally charged experiences when they connect to a particular piece.

“It’s like the pieces pick the people it seems.”

Wright often receives requests for commissioned artwork and enjoys that interaction.

“I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to exhibit Joel’s creations,” said Teri Stover, director of the John F. Moss Library at A&M-Texarkana. “He is a very talented artist, and I think the students will flock to the library to see his works.”

The John F. Moss Library is open Mondays through Thursdays from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from 1-9 p.m.

Admission is free and open to the public.
