Texarkana, Texas Police say an 18-year-old man is recovering in the hospital after accidentally shooting himself in buttocks with an alleged stolen revolver.Police responded to Wadley Regional Medical Center at 5:30 a.m. Monday after a Texarkana, Ark., man accidentally shot himself in the buttocks with a handgun that was reportedly stolen, according to police. Upon their arrival, officers say they found Dakota Young, 18, being treated for a gunshot wound to his buttocks. Young initially told police that he was shot by an unknown suspect while walking in the 1100 block of Pine Street.

A witness who was with Young at the time of the shooting led officers to the 1100 block of Olive Street where they located a .38 caliber revolver.

It soon became apparent that Young was not being truthful after evidence gathered at the crime scene, coupled with the nature of the gunshot wound, led officers to believe it was self-inflicted. Young then recanted and admitted to accidentally shooting himself, police said.

The revolver and a cellular phone, which was in Young’s possession, were both reported stolen from a vehicle in the 100 block of Olive Street in Texarkana, Ark. The case is still under investigation and Young is recovering in the hospital. Police say that criminal charges may be filed after his release from the hospital.
