Spread the word, things are "growing on" with the Texarkana Downtown Community Garden. Designed, created, worked and maintained by all volunteers, the garden could always use a helping hand.

A visit to the Texarkana Downtown Garden's Facebook Page offers a great deal of information about the garden and the goals of the volunteers that make the project possible.

The Greater Texarkana - Downtown Community Garden is a gathering place, a place for learning and mentoring, a place for taking care of God‘s creation, and a place where food can be produced and shared with others. Organized by the downtown churches in the community, members work side by side in the garden.

A creation of the downtown churches, all of the produce from the garden is donated to local charities to feed the hungry here at home in Texarkana. Local churches involved include St. Edward's Catholic Church, First Presbyterian Church, First United Methodist Church Texarkana Arkansas, Central Christian Church, St. James Episcopal Church, and Beech Street Baptist. Of course there are individuals that volunteer, and people from many different groups and organizations that put in work for the garden.

There is always room for another hand, to volunteer contact the group thru their Facebook page, or visit the garden at 516 Laurel Street in downtown Texarkana Arkansas.

(I enjoyed looking thru the photos posted on their page. The pic of the kids playing in the dirt reminded me of my Granny taking us grandkids out into the garden to help her, of course now that I am all grown up, I know having us grandkids in the garden was sometimes a lot tougher on her than picking the peas and okra... man, I miss her okra and fried green tomatoes, but even more I really miss the times in the garden with my Granny.)
