If there's one thing we learned from watching the production of the prequel trilogy, it's that 'Star Wars' fans are as passionate as they are nosy and if there's one thing we've learned from 'Star Trek Into Darkness,' it's that Abrams plays things close to the vest. A recent interview with LucasFilm honcho Kathleen Kennedy shed some light on this whole situation.

But did you know that he was evidently offered the job? A few choice quotes from the 'Star Trek' director indicates that he could have been the captain of two different space sagas. Jump after the break to learn more.

It was announced yesterday that Disney purchased Lucasfilm and its subsidiaries for $4 billion, with plans to release the first movie ('Star Wars: Episode 7') in a new planned 'Star Wars' trilogy in 2015. Although the additional news that these films will be based on an original story and not on any of the spin-off book series like fans were hoping, we are reportedly still in for an exciting ride.

According to author Dale Pollock, who wrote a biography on filmmaker George Lucas, the upcoming 'Star Wars' trilogy from Disney will be the most exciting 'Star Wars' films yet.

If that wasn't enough to inspire "Goofy shot first" jokes, Disney also announced plans to release a new 'Star Wars' movie in 2015 which will not be written or directed by George Lucas. (The creator fans love to hate will stay on in a creative consultant capacity.)

But fans of both "a galaxy far, far away" and The Mouse House have been creating awesome mash-up artwork as long as the internet (or at least DeviantArt) has been around.
