Sting’s New York Concert Taking Place Despite Snowstorm, Fans Furious

Much of New York City was shut down today due to a snowstorm. However, that didn't prevent Sting from playing his concert at the Hammerstein Ballroom tonight. But the decision to go on has left many fans unhappy, accusing both him and the venue of being greedy.

This morning, as people were preparing for 20 inches of snow to fall on Manhattan, the venue posted on its Facebook page, "Hey Sting fans. As per the Artist and Promoter, the Sting concert is scheduled to take place as planned tonight at 8pm with doors at 7pm. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. Stay safe and warm!"

Although it turned out that the city only got seven inches of snow due to a shift in the storm's pattern, public transportation throughout the region was either canceled or experienced delays. A state of emergency was declared, and people were advised to stay in their homes. Many Sting fans unwilling to brave the storm expressed their displeasure in the comments of the ballroom's post.

One fan wrote, "Please postpone or cancel this! You are putting people's lives at risk if they try to get into NYC in this 'State of Emergency' drivers are urged to stay off the roads' and public transport is so disrupted. Guess my expensive Christmas present from my husband is going to waste! I'm a lifelong fan of Sting but will completely veto him and anything to do with him unless he does the right thing here by his fans. PLEASE CANCEL or offer refunds."

Others used more forceful language. "I always heard Sting was an a------," wrote another. "This pretty much confirms it. The venue should have a say whether to postpone/cancel the show but it's all about $$$."

"The inconvenience is that this proves that Sting doesn't give a s--- about the $124 or so that I worked for to pay for a s---ty seat in 1st balcony because I couldn't get the seat I wanted with the fan club presale (yes, I pay for that too)," wrote a third. "Sting might lose a few fans over this. I know I won't be quick to throw my $$ down to see him again & might not renew my fan club membership. Screw you is right. Performing for a few at the expense of many is a horrible way to do business."

This was the last stop on the North American leg of Sting's tour. Next week he kicks off three weeks in Europe beginning in Barcelona.
