A section of US 67 (7th Street) in Texarkana will receive a new riding surface next year according to plans approved in December by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).

According to a press release, “We will be resurfacing a 1.6-mile section of the highway from the Arkansas State Line to Apple Street,” said Paul Wong, area engineer for TxDOT in Texarkana. “We will be making repairs to some of the old pavement and then repaving the entire roadway.

“We will also be restriping the traffic lanes on this one-way roadway to reduce the number of traffic lanes from three to two between Milam Street and Texas Boulevard,” Wong said. “This modification will enhance safety by providing shoulders and increasing the distance between the travel lanes and roadside obstructions.”

East Texas Bridge, Inc. of Longview was awarded the contract for the construction project with a bid of $761,772.

Work on the project should begin in April and take about two months to complete, Wong said.
