Some of the Huntington Independent School District teachers in Lufkin, Texas are now armed with loaded weapons to defend their students..

Back in March the Huntington ISD board voted to allow some staff members to carry guns beginning October 18, 2013.

Superintendent Eric Wright has said that school district employees were required to have their concealed carry permits and undergo extensive training that included a firearms proficiency test, psychological evaluations, active shooter classes and firearms safety courses.

District officials will not be releasing the names of the armed employees.
