The new single from the long-awaited new Rush album, ‘Clockwork Angels,’ is here, and let us tell you… it rocks! The song, titled Headlong Flight,’ clips along at a brisk pace nearly from start to end. Rush haven’t sounded this emphatic and dynamic in a long while.

‘Headlong Flight‘ was one of those songs that was a joy to write and record from beginning to end,” bassist/vocalist Geddy Lee tells Rolling Stone. The song’s origins date back to a jam session prior to the group’s ‘Time Machine’ tour of 2010. “Alex and I assembled the song to be an instrumental,” Lee explains, “Its original title was ‘Take That Lampshade Off Yo Head!,’ but once we saw the lyrics Neil [Peart] had written, I knew that the spirit of the lyrics matched the instrumental perfectly and it was just a matter of making them fit and writing the melodies.”

The song clocks in at over seven minutes, and is full of the incredible playing we’ve come to expect of the triumphant trio. Guitarist Alex Lifeson in particular can be found cutting loose on some amazing six-stringed mayhem. The band will hit the road in support of the album in the fall, and a list of reported (but not confirmed) dates can be found right here. ‘Clockwork Angels,’ Rush’s 20th album, is set for release June 12th.
