Roger Waters Breaks Rolling Stones’ South American Tour Record

As Pink Floyd‘s Roger Waters played around South America on his ‘The Wall’ tour, the newlywed sold out nine shows at River Plate Stadium in Buenos Aires, breaking the previous five-night record set by the Rolling Stones.

In all, Waters played 15 concerts in Chile, Brazil and Argentina during the largest-ever South American stadium tour for an international artist, with a staggering 750,000 people turning up for the shows.

That brings the grand tally for ‘The Wall’ tour to 150 shows in 27 countries, with a take of over $218 million — and Waters isn’t done yet. The North American leg of his tour kicks off next weekend at Foro Sol stadium in Mexico, and he’ll spend the next few months playing 41 more shows across the continent before finally wrapping up in mid-July.

Late last year, Waters announced his US and Canadian tour schedule, but he’s since added an extra date in Winnipeg, MB (he’ll play both May 31 and June 1) and at New York’s Yankee Stadium (where he’ll be June 6 and 7).

Between this and having Floyd’s ‘Comfortably Numb‘ featured at No. 9 in our Top 100 Classic Rock Songs countdown, we’d say Roger is already having quite a year.
