What do Guns N Roses, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Heart and the Red Hot Chili Peppers have in common? They are among the nominees for the 2012 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The list of nominees were announced earlier today.

For an artist or a band to be nominated they must have released their first single or album at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination.

Wait a minute! 25 years? O.k. now I feel old!

“The 2012 Nominees embody the broad scope of what ‘rock and roll’ means,” said Joel Peresman, President and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. “From vocal groups to hip hop, from singer-songwriters to hard rocking artists, this group represents the spirit of what we celebrate at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.”

The 27th annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place Saturday, April 14, 2012 in Cleveland.
